There is no shortage of people telling you what you should be doing with your social media. ‘Post more photos, better photos, more stats, more stories, make it more personal, stop showing us your personal life…’ If you listened to it all, you’d go crazy and if you did everything you were told to do, your newsfeed would look like a dog’s breakfast – all over the shop!
There’s a basically four categories of media you can post on social media: text, photos, videos and links. Everything else is just a hybrid of these foundational four.
Keeping a sustainable regime around regular posting boils down to finding what you love doing online, and doing more of that. If you hate writing, please don’t start a blog. If you hate taking photos, then let’s forget about Instagram for now.
If you are trying to make yourself create content for your social media channels and you are hating it while you are doing, then we can all feel it too. And worse still, if you feel like you have to do something you don’t want to, you’ll avoid updating your channels altogether and that is a travesty for all of us. We want to hear what you have to say – but we want to hear about what lights you up, not what makes you want to light your hair on fire!
